Spectacular trip of Yucatecan Flamingos

State Audubon Florida Research Director Jerry Lorenz told CNN that since Hurricane Idalia, they have received reports of flamingos from all over Florida, as well as from Georgia, the Carolinas, Texas, Kentucky and elsewhere. Also, Vinnie Fugett, a boat captain sighted a group of 17 flamingos on Treasure Island beach near St. Petersburg, Florida.

During the period from September 1 to October 21, 2023, 6 individuals of Flamingos banded in Yucatan, Mexico were reported to the FlamencoLab program.

In collaboration with technicians from the U.S. Department of Wildlife and FlamencoLab, the band codes were verified, resulting in 5 of these flamingos being aged 7, 11, 23 and 2 individuals aged 18 years. It is important to note that this is not the first record of flamingos born in the wetlands of Yucatan and sighted in places like Florida.
